Success with Online Learning

Certain factors contribute to the success of students who take online learning classes. Being able to study when it is convenient for your schedule can make procrastinating on assignments easy. Some students enroll in online learning classes and take advantage of the freedom online learning classes offer. Then they find themselves scrambling at the last minute to turn in tests or assignments. Although you have more freedom, online classes do require some amount of studying and scheduling. The most successful students understand that online learning classes are a privilege and require structure and planning.

Purchase a planner for your online learning classes. If you already keep a planner for other classes, color-code your online classes so they are separate from the rest. This way you will know which assignments you can do easily from home. Organize your homework, tests and papers by due date just as you would for other classes. Do not wait until the last minute to start work on an online class assignment. Some assignments will have time deadlines, and working from home you need to account for distractions and computer problems.

Set up a quiet work area. Even though you are working at home, you will be most successful with a quiet, calm study environment. Let your friends and family know that you are not available during certain times so you can complete online learning class assignments. You can also schedule your class time for after everyone is in bed. If it helps, set up a specified time each day that you dedicate to your online learning class. Keep in mind that these classes can be done on the weekend so you can schedule a catch up day if needed. Keep all materials organized near your work area. Have extra pens, paper and books organized nearby.

Keep your professor informed of any changes. Unexpected events that pop up in your life may prevent you from getting online or finishing an assignment on time. Online professors understand that their classes are prone to computer glitches. If, for some reason, you are unable to sign on to your class let your professor know. It is also important to let your professor know immediately if you had a glitch in your computer while you were taking a test or uploading a file. If necessary, go to the library or a friend’s house to get on the computer.

Make sure you email your professor promptly if an assignment is going to be late. Inquire about an extended turn in time as soon as possible. If your professor has assigned students into email groups for an assignment make sure you let them know what is going on too. Online learning classes provide many advantages for students with busy schedules.

Keep your printer stocked with ink and paper. You should arrange one folder for your online class and print out the syllabus and any other class information. It will be much easier to reference a hard copy for class information than signing on the computer each time. With some proper planning and scheduling, it is easy to complete an online learning class successfully.
